Are you interested in working at the interphase of climate, sustainability and finance? Do you want to do science that can make direct contributions to societal change? Join us to help develop novel ways of addressing pressing sustainability challenges by combining research on sustainability, Earth system science and finance.
You will be working at the Global Economic Dynamics and the Biosphere within the Biosphere Finance research theme, in close collaboration with colleagues at the Stockholm Resilience Centre and as part of an extended group contributing to the new Sustainable Finance Lab.
Specifically, the work will include i) new ways of accounting for and incorporating sustainability risks in financial decision-making frameworks; ii) evaluating the contribution of current ESG rating to global climate stability; iii) working in a team to develop new metrics to account for earth system impacts of financial investments.
A successful candidate will have experience with/or demonstrated interest in aspects relating to financial investments. This could include (but is not limited to) work on ESG metrics and development, asset class development, investment portfolio management, to name a few. A successful candidate is also likely to have experience with/interest in multiple aspects of global environmental change, including e.g. climate change, hydrological flows, biodiversity and/or deforestation and land-use change.
A key aspect of the research will be to explore novel ways of linking the dynamics of the global environment (beyond just green-house gas emissions) to capital markets. It will also entail identifying key financial system leverage points for stewardship/intervention.
Additional qualification requirements and selection
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a track record in research, including publications, related to sustainability and/or economics. About Global Economic Dynamics and the Biosphere Program (GEDB)
GEDB is an Academy research programme at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. We address the economic dynamics of global change and its implications for a sustainable future, and we are funded by the Erling-Persson Family Foundation. Our mission is to perform science for change through frontier interdisciplinary research in largely unexplored areas – searching for critical connections, causalities and new discoveries and at the same time engaging with relevant stakeholders and actors in new forms of collaboration for concrete action. But always with cutting-edge science as our primary ambition.
